Zwaaikombrug Oosterhout 2023 Gemeente Oosterhout

When the municipality of Oosterhout asked me if I wanted to write a text to be placed on a brand new bridge in the Zwaaikom area, I obviously said yes. Without too much input of what the text should entail, I went deep down into the story of my hometown and presented three different concepts. The best one was chosen and from there, the journey unfolded in a long process of construction and completion.

During my visit to the workplace of De Kuiper Infrabouw, I witnessed the pre-fabrication of the bridge and interviewed key persons to learn more about its technical aspects and considerations. In addition, I flew my drone and handled my camera in order to gather more significant visuals. Scroll down to catch a vibe of one of my biggest projects ever!

Start things off correctly. For the construction of De Zwaaikom bridge, Iconick navigates to the workplace of De Kuiper Infrabouw and interviews Anton Verrips. As the project leader, he’s more than eager to show the production of pre-fab elements that will be put together on location. Doing so, the process is shortened by three months and no more parts of the bridge have to be completed upon location. Talking about efficiency!

Great: the pre-fab bridge finished its construction at the workplace in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Today, we talk with Gerard Verspui, site manager of De Kuiper Infrabouw, as he explains how the placement of the bridge comes to pass.

Now that the bridge is laid in its place, De Zwaaikom is becoming realer by the day. Site manager Gerard discusses what it takes to construct the road. A job that requires quite the effort!

A lot of things take place in the process of building a bridge. We get in conversation with Maaik Timmermans, surveillant of the municipality of Oosterhout, who explains the details of such projects.

December 14, 2023 marks the date of the grand opening of De Zwaaikom. It also marks a merciless cold that – luckily – gets accompanied by local oliebollen and hot tea. Hundreds of curious inhabitants of Oosterhout and its surrounding come by to witness the reveal of the mysterious text written by Iconick. A magical evening that opens up the island to the rest of the city.
